Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Teenagers

Who: Teens age 14 to 17
Where: CHEO – Centre for Healthy Active Living, 1355 Bank Street

MBSRjunior is a program for teenagers offered in cooperation with CHEO’s concussion clinic to help teenagers handle and recover from concussion related pain, anxiety and stress. The course is open to everyone interested to learn how to better handle stress and everyday challenges.

Being a teen can be unexpectedly stressful! How can mindfulness help me with this?

Mindfulness is a powerful way to handle stress. It’s about noticing what’s happening right here and now, sending a gentle smile to whatever you’re experiencing in this moment (whether it’s easy or difficult), and letting it go. It sounds simple, but it’s not always easy to do, especially when you are stressed! This course teaches you how to get started.

Why should I participate in MBSRjunior?

MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) was developed to support people with pain and severe illnesses. Research shows that already after 8 weeks of daily practice many people experienced an increase in their quality of life. MBSRjunior has been adapted to the needs and capacities of teenagers, to better handle stress and physical challenges.
